Nepal Hiking with a local Himalayan team

Adventure trips in Nepal Himalaya by Himalayan Hiking. Our focus is on customised treks for all interests and abilities. Our guides possess a treasure trove of experience of the Nepal Himalaya and their aim is to make your trekking experience safe and memorable. No need to worry about logistics as we arrange bookings for permits, flights and accommodation for you.

Do not have much or any experience trekking? Perhaps the Mardi Himal or Poon Hill treks are good places to start getting in a good amount of endurance. For experienced trekkers, there is also a challenging Three Passes trek through the Everest Region, and a trek to Upper Mustang. We have included sufficient acclimatisation in our tours to reduce the risk of altitude sickness. All of our treks can be private or group treks, and our group treks depart in the spring and autumn.

A local trekking company in Kathmandu, Nepal

We're a trekking and tour company based in Kathmandu. Our trip planners have spent years on these trails, and our guides come from the villages along them, from the Khumbu below Everest to the Annapurna, Langtang and Manaslu regions.

That local knowledge shows in small ways: which lodge has the warm dining room, what time to leave to beat the afternoon cloud, which day to take slowly. Every Nepal trek includes a licensed English-speaking guide, porters, permits, teahouse rooms and transfers, with rest days built in so the altitude doesn't catch you out.

Got a few days either side? We can add Kathmandu's temples, a lazy stay in Pokhara or a safari in Chitwan. Join one of our small groups in spring or autumn, or travel privately on dates that suit you.

  • Itineraries built around realistic walking days and acclimatisation
  • Permits, domestic flights, lodges and transfers arranged for you
  • Private trips on your dates, or join a scheduled group

Trekking in Nepal at a glance

Trekking in Nepal means walking multi-day trails through the Himalaya, the world’s highest mountain range, and sleeping in family-run teahouse lodges along the way. The best time to trek in Nepal is spring (March–May) and autumn (late September–November). Most Himalayan treks last 5 to 21 days and reach between 3,000 and 5,600 metres.

Nepal is home to eight of the world’s fourteen 8,000-metre peaks, including Mount Everest. The classic routes are the Everest Base Camp trek in the Khumbu region, the Annapurna Base Camp and Annapurna Circuit treks from Pokhara, the Langtang Valley trek north of Kathmandu and the remote Manaslu Circuit. Shorter walks such as the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek suit first-time trekkers and families.

You don't need climbing experience, but you do need to go slowly: most problems on a trek come from gaining height too fast. That's why we put rest days in the right places, and why every group walks with a licensed trekking guide who knows the signs of altitude sickness.

Ask a question

Spring (March to May) and autumn (late September to November) are the best seasons, with stable weather and clear mountain views. Winter (December to February) is good for lower treks such as Poon Hill. The monsoon (June to August) brings rain and cloud to most routes.

Yes, in most cases. Nepal requires foreign trekkers in most trekking areas to be accompanied by a licensed guide, and restricted areas such as Manaslu require a licensed guide and a special permit. Himalayan Hiking provides licensed local guides on every trek.

Everest Base Camp is a strenuous but non-technical trek of about 12 to 14 days, reaching 5,364 m at base camp and 5,545 m at Kala Patthar. You walk 5 to 7 hours a day, and rest days for acclimatisation are built into the itinerary. No climbing experience is needed.

Most treks need a national park or conservation area entry permit, for example the Sagarmatha National Park permit for Everest or the Annapurna Conservation Area permit. Restricted areas need an additional special permit. We arrange all permits as part of your trip.

Costs depend on the route, length and group size. Our guided treks start from the prices shown on each trip page and usually include guides, permits, teahouse accommodation and meals on the trek. Contact us for a quote for your dates.

Yes. Every Himalayan Hiking itinerary can run as a private trip on dates you choose, and we can adjust the pace, add rest days or combine regions.
