Trekking in Nepal means walking multi-day trails through the Himalaya and sleeping in family-run teahouse lodges. Nepal is home to eight of the world's fourteen 8,000-metre peaks, including Mount Everest. Classic routes are the Everest Base Camp trek (Khumbu), the Annapurna Base Camp and Annapurna Circuit treks (from Pokhara), the Langtang Valley trek and the Manaslu Circuit; the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek suits first-time trekkers and families. ### When is the best time to trek in Nepal?
Spring (March to May) and autumn (late September to November) are the best seasons, with stable weather and clear mountain views. Winter (December to February) is good for lower treks such as Poon Hill. The monsoon (June to August) brings rain and cloud to most routes.

### Do I need a guide to trek in Nepal?
Yes, in most cases. Nepal requires foreign trekkers in most trekking areas to be accompanied by a licensed guide, and restricted areas such as Manaslu require a licensed guide and a special permit. Himalayan Hiking provides licensed local guides on every trek.

### How hard is the Everest Base Camp trek?
Everest Base Camp is a strenuous but non-technical trek of about 12 to 14 days, reaching 5,364 m at base camp and 5,545 m at Kala Patthar. You walk 5 to 7 hours a day, and rest days for acclimatisation are built into the itinerary. No climbing experience is needed.

### What permits do I need for trekking in Nepal?
Most treks need a national park or conservation area entry permit, for example the Sagarmatha National Park permit for Everest or the Annapurna Conservation Area permit. Restricted areas need an additional special permit. We arrange all permits as part of your trip.

### How much does a trek in Nepal cost?
Costs depend on the route, length and group size. Our guided treks start from the prices shown on each trip page and usually include guides, permits, teahouse accommodation and meals on the trek. Contact us for a quote for your dates.
